Space flight is an enduring obsession of mine. Just think about it… h.erectus pounded out the same damn hand axes for all 1.2 million of their years on earth and in 50,000 we pulled this shit off (and I mean all of it… humans filming space shuttles launching whilst sipping on a Dr.Pepper at 30,000 feet and then posting it on the internet).
I went to space camp in Florida the summer before 4th grade. One morning at like 4AM we all got out of bed and stood on the roof of the dormitory to watch the shuttle land. As I remember it, the thing glided directly over our heads before landing on a runway not even 5 miles away. It’s pretty amazing that for all the violence of getting into space, coming back down (ozone layer/heat shield issues aside) is just about letting gravity do its thing.
This concludes my thoughts on space travel. Thanks for indulging me.
“On board Air Canada 981 bound to Toronto from Nassau we saw the launch of the shuttle.”holy smokes!
